Yesterday, in memoriam of Soul Train creator Don Cornelius, about 100 dancers gathered in Times Square in a flash mob that was organized through the internet. They recreated one of the show’s famous “Soul Train lines”. If you’ve been chillin’ on another planet and are not sure what that is, it’s where people form two lines and take turns dancing down the center showing off their best dance moves. I’m not ashamed to say that I’ve been guilty of participating in a few of these.
The police allowed dancers to bounce down Manhattan’s busy Broadway Street for 45 minutes until they were told to disperse. All in all, it was a great representation of a peaceful public commemoration.
Don Cornelius, 75, died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound at his Los Angeles home this past Wednesday.
