So I watched the debut of Reed Between the Lines with the Fiance last night. It’s this new sitcom on B.E.T. starring Tracee Ellis Ross and Malcom-Jamal Warner. Now let me start by saying that I haven’t been a fan of B.E.T. or its programming choices for quite some time. With that being said, I was thoroughly impressed by this new show.
For starters, it’s a scripted series, so that in and of itself was refreshing in this day of excessive reality television. It’s a modern love story that follows a successful African American couple, juggling three kids (the oldest of which happen to be twins :D) and demanding careers. I love the positive depiction. In the first episode, the storyline was surprisingly unpredictable. I didn’t have the whole “I could write this stuff” epiphany that I normally do when watching scripted television. The “cheesiness” was quite tolerable and almost befitting. My favorite part I think though was the wardrobe. The stylist really did his/her thing. I couldn’t wait to see what Tracee – or even the kids were going to come out in next.
All in all, will I be setting the DVR… if I had one? No – But if I remember it’s on next Tuesday, I’ll definitely tune in.
