As much as we hate to admit them, we all have our guilty pleasures. For most of us (YES including me), celebrity gossip is at the top of that list. C’mon, who doesn’t want to see celebrities humbled by “nip slips” and stage trips? Who knew Kristen Stewart had the reading level of a 7th grader? I did! It could be helpful in a crazy way, especially for parents. It can’t hurt to know what these so called “role models” are displaying and ultimately teaching your kids. This, my fellow gossip fiends, is how the Celebrity News section of WeGotKidz.com came to be.
By reading any tabloid magazine or blog gossip site, it’s obvious not all celebrities are role models. Let’s start with what we’ll call the NON-Role Model Celebrity of the Week. As much as I admire her bubbly spirit and close relationship with God, Fantasia Barrino hasn’t been practicing much of what she preaches. Her recent surprise pregnancy is one example. Not referring to the beautiful blessing of a child, but who the alleged Father is…Dunn, dunn, dunn… to be continued ;)…
On a lighter note, let’s discuss our Role Model Celebrity of the Week. This week the honor goes to hip hop artist Common Sense. Common recently wrote a book titled One day It’ll All Make Sense. In the book, he lays it all out on the table: His ups, his downs, the good and the worse – even writing things his mother would blush in embarrassment to read. How is that a role model you ask? In the book, he also lays out how he overcame adversity, and grew from his mistakes. He’s shown that admitting your mistakes is okay; but admitting them also means learning and growing from them. That’s what Common has shown in his book and in his life. I don’t know about you, but putting that positive growth out there displays a pretty good role model to me.
Tune in next week!
