The 6 Best Ways to Work Out With Your Kids
As a mom, it’s easy to put yourself on the back burner. There are so many people who need your help every single day, and finding the time to take care of your own body becomes a challenge. If you don’t pay attention to your health, you won’t be able to give 100 percent to your little ones day in and day out. The good news is that it is possible to get in shape – even with the little ones running around. Consider these tips:
1.) Take Your Kid With You!
Let’s face it – going for a walk with a two-year-old is only a good workout for your patience, not your body. You have to stop and study each little ant you pass on the way, and you end up coming home with pockets filled with pretty rocks, right? That doesn’t mean you can’t get in some exercise with your little one. Who says you can’t go running when you are home with the kids? Just use your stroller! Purchase a jogging stroller and go for a jog while giving your babies a new viewpoint.
2.) Make the Most of Your Home
Working out without leaving the home is possible if you look around and make the most of what’s already around you. Do you have stairs at home? You’ve got a built-in Stairmaster! It may be a little simplistic, but run up and down those stairs for 20 minutes and you will see just how easy working out at home with your kid can be. Be sure to clear off the collection of toys that tend to find a home on your stairs though to avoid a disaster.
3.) Go to the Gym
What new mom doesn’t want an occasional break from her “cherubs”? Find a kid-friendly gym in your area. Many gyms provide free childcare on site with the purchase of a membership. That way you’ll be killing two birds with one stone: your kids can play and socialize with other kids, and you’ll be getting in a good workout. After an hour or so, everyone will be ready to head home. You will have gotten a bit of a break and a great workout too.
4.) Get Them Moving
Taking a jog with your kids in a jogging stroller is a great idea, but after about age five it’s simply not practical. No mom is going to stuff a healthy six-year-old kid in a stroller and go for a jog. Why not invest in some bikes or scooters for them? They might not be able to keep up with your bike-riding prowess, but you can jog alongside. That way everyone can get in a good workout.
5.) Take Fido Out
Is your dog getting a little pudgy around the middle? Make walking the dog a family affair! You will have some excellent opportunities to chat with your kids while everyone – including the dog – will be getting in some exercise.
6.) Use Your Kids
How much does your toddler weigh? About 20 pounds? You have the perfect adorable little weight to use for a workout. Hoist up your kiddo and use him or her as a weight to do some strength training. Have your kid sit on your feet to help as you do some sit-ups. Incorporate your kids into your workout and you will be teaching them the importance of staying in shape.

Motherhood doesn’t necessarily mean that you have to be sentenced to having that belly bulge forever. If you are creative and you make it a priority, you can workout and reclaim your shape again in no time. You might be in the days of yoga pants and t-shirts, but there’s no reason you can’t look great and feel healthy while wearing them!
