T his week’s “Brilliant Blogger Broad” is a mother of one, a self-proclaimed occasional hot mess, and a proud believer in the “helicopter” style of parenting. Her name is C. Lee [“sealy”]; and her blog, HelicopterMomandJustPlaneDad.com, is a fantastic reflection of her wonderfully unorthodox life.
Quite aware of the many naysayers who take issue with her “overprotective” style of parenting, C. Lee is on an admirable mission to prove that there’s absolutely nothing wrong with staying involved and being a very active participant in your child’s life.
Not only does C. Lee tackle the topic of parenting, but she shares her perspectives on fashion and decorating, dispensing her refreshing perspective in posts like “Winter’s coming, do you have your wellies?“.
Meet C. Lee!
*Hi C. Lee! So tell us what you blog about?
I blog about parenting my teenage daughter in an overprotective way. That’s right, can you hear the blades? Helicopter parenting.
*What inspired you to begin blogging?
I heard another blogger’s story, who parents with a different style, and that prompted me to do a little research. I was saddened to find all of the harsh and rude comments online about my [and my hubby’s] style of parenting. I believe that you can stay highly involved in your child’s life and not end up with tragic results. I wanted the world to hear a different side. The not-so-dark side of parenting.
*What advice do you have for someone who wants to start blogging?
Read everything you can on setting up your blog the right way the first time. Decide on your niche. Find those blogs that fit your niche and then follow them for a bit. Write down what you like/dislike about their posts. Use this information to create your own amazing content. Don’t be afraid to start!
*Your favorite all time blog post (written by you of course)
Oh goodness…I actually have two. I love writing my posts because they remind me of old memories. I think my favorites were taking my daughter to the Disney character signature line for the first time: “Disney Memories of the Past”, and the first and thankfully ONLY time that I lost my girlie: “Have You Ever Lost Your Child?”
*What do you do in your downtime to relax?
I read like a maniac; always have. If it’s non-fiction, I’ve read it. Don’t give me those ooshy, smooshy love stories; I want to learn something.
*What is your favorite thing about being a mom?
My favorite thing about being a Mom is knowing that my daughter is a living, breathing, walking, sometimes frustrating creation of my husband’s love for me. She is our love in this beautiful amazing package. Loving her is my fave!
*What do you think about when you’re alone in your car?
“Did I close the garage door?”
*If my family and I came to your house for dinner, what would you prepare for us?
Chinese take-out! Kidding, kind of. I love to go simple and old school; spaghetti with meatballs and garlic bread. It’s on for Wednesday night so please drop by.
