I don’t know anyone who doesn’t love looking at old family photos. They bring back memories of hairstyles, clothing trends, and family vacations gone by. They’re a hoot to look at with your kids – especially if you have one of those classic “baby bath time” shots. Fun times.
Well I recently “Stumbled upon” a woman who’s taken the concept of revisiting family photos to an entirely different level.
Finnish photographer, Wilma Hurskaine, decided to gather her three sisters and re-photograph their childhood keepsake photos. The photos were recreated with amazing accuracy, from their old fashion senses down to their quirky facial expressions – even taking it as far as taking the pictures in the same exact locations.
The photo series is titled “Growth” and Ms. Wilma takes things very deep, choosing to address what she classifies as a “bittersweet experience” of revisiting old photographs.
Anyone with any family history can tell that, although the family pictures are supposed to tell a story about a happy, unanimous family, growing up with other people is never simple. Family photographs can be a way of reflecting one´s past and identity, but the pictures conceal just as much as they reveal.
I’m not sure about all of that, but I will agree that what she’s done is truly captivating.
